He has a 24-year career (18 as a producer), and when he made it to the top, he never left. He is considered by his peers and by the public one of the best DJs and producers on the national and world scene. He is currently a resident of The Week, Joy (NY) and Wow (NY).
Today we will know a little more about this icon that always exceeds expectations, and represents us with mastery abroad, we present: Mauro Mozart.
He started playing in 1997, in Belo Horizonte (where he lives to this day), at friends’ parties and birthdays. Then he played in nightclubs of the “straight scene”, with the name of DJ Energy, where he had contact with the electronic scene of the time.
He then began performing at predominantly LGBTQIA+ clubs, having gone once to meet, and was delighted with the vibe.
When he started, his references were: Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Armand Van Helden, Rosabel (Abel Aguilera & Ralphi Rosario), Thunderpuss, Tony Moran, Chus & Ceballos, Dario Nuñez and the DJs of the Matinée Group of Spain.
In a short time he was a resident of Josefine (BH), after Diesel and The Pub, in Goiânia.
In 2003,he began to produce, which has given him good results: the productions toured the world and opened the doors to the international career – even without media, support from record label or a large party-producing group behind, only with word of mouth disclosure among DJs and Soundcloud (which emerged in 2007 and quickly became the platform most used by DJs, debunking My Space).
Already in the year 2010, if you reader, talked to a friend of yours European, boiled, and asked if he knew any Brazilian DJ, surely he would answer: “Mauro Mozart and Enrry Senna“. As Mauro himself says: “I’ve had several unforgettable moments. How to play for the first time in New York at Joy and the Winter Party in Miami. I’m going to take these beautiful moments with me for the rest of my life.”
Since then, he has been one of the most requested names nationally and worldwide to make official remixes. But there’s one of them that’s the favorite of this reporter: the remix for Gloria Estefan’s ’80s anthem, “Rhythm is going to Get You”, made last year, and the same says, “Look, making an official remix for diva Gloria Estefan was a great gift! I didn’t expect so much success. Gratitude.”
He continued his winning career, playing for major national and international stamps, until in 2015 he finally came to residency at The Week.
The Week gave him one of the most desired dates on the scene: playing at the Circuit Festival in Barcelona. “Playing at the Circuit Festival was a unique experience. I played the Carioca party of The Week. It was a hit, and then I went to honor friends DJs at the Main Party, the water park party. It was surreal,” Mauro says.
Once at The Week São Paulo, in June, in lgbtqia+ pride month, he played riding drag. The name Mauretty came out on the flyer and the Lorean app. All week dozens of house habituées were curious, chasing information about Mauretty, searching soundcloud without finding it. On Saturday the mystery was undone. From the photos you can see that Mauro had more fun than everyone else.
Another occasion was up to him to warm up the first feast of the Eterna Festival. It was also Thursday, in the old Spaço 555, on Avenida São João (SP). Proving that there is no bad time, the set resonated a lot, was one of the most commented of the Festival.
There are brilliant producers who are good DJs. There are brilliant DJs who are good producers. But in the view of the people we listen, Mauro is one of the most complete national DJs, managing to be brilliant as a DJ and Producer.
And he has been able to maintain that regularity throughout his career. Any artist is likely to have more creative phases and others more of reflection, research in search of new sounds and new challenges…
It is not his case, which has evolved his sound over the years, adapting to the scene, but always highly productive and creative. A real restless mind.
His presentations are always a surprise, even for those who have a habit of following their Soundcloud and their productions. Mauro doesn’t cling to the set.
He told us a little bit about how he prepares for a performance, according to the type of party.
“I always update myself in all styles, I’m prepared to play from electronic parties to the Straight or LGBT audiences.
For a party on the beach or in a Club with swimming pool, the DJ has to be prepared for that environment. I take tracks from Deep House, Tea Dance, Dance Music, House Music, Disco Music and Progressive House.
Already in parties in small clubs, I prepare a material of Tribal House: Brazilian and International Vocals.
This also applies to big parties, where I also add House Music and Progressive House.
I never come with set prepared. I always leave my playlist organized a week before my presentations, and I update throughout the week.”
Over the years, Mauro has made several successful partnerships. The first of these was with DJ Jeff Valle (currently living in Spain): Project Sound Systems. Jeff told us everything:
“It was about 2008, the root Tribalzão was beginning to make room for a more progressive footprint, thinner sound, Peter (Rauhofer) was at the peak… I’m a miner too, and I invited Mauro to form a team, and it was amazing. He’s very loving and very professional.
I did more the melody and harmony part, and he added the percussion part.
We’ve done official remixes for Tony Moran and Anastacia.
The most important thing for a duo to work is loyalty, transparency. After all, it’s up to both of them to make it work.”
Another remarkable partnership was with DJ Tommy Love, forming the duo Blond 2 Black, which yielded many cool productions, the most famous being the instrumental “Fierce”. In Brazil the last time they played together was at the Festa da Lili in 2019.
“There are very few DJs i feel comfortable doing a back2back with. It takes total harmony, both have to talk musically and complete each other in some way.
Mauro has a very captivating energy, just being next to him you already feel good. And that’s very important in a back2back.
When we play together, only if we look at each other, we know what the other one is thinking. It’s surreal!
And the same applies to our productions together: I send my share, and Mauro returns to me with incredible changes!” Tommy told us.
He also formed memorable doubles with Paulo Pacheco (Back2black) and Renato Cecin (Grooveline – performed together in Brazil and Asia).
Ethics and humility are great qualities of yours, admired by all colleagues. Mauro told us a little about what he thinks about it:
“Ethics and humility and professionalism are very important things in the artistic career. But unfortunately many do not. I was always humble, and so when I was starting there were people who took advantage of my kindness and passed me back
But I saw that it wasn’t worth hitting head-on, I’ve always been with my head held high and doing my job. That’s the secret to success.
The issue of Ego between DJs and producers has existed for more than 30 years, but it is a natural issue, each has to defend his business and his work. But let it be professional.
Although in my opinion it has improved from time to time. The pandemic we’re experiencing was a game changer.I noticed that many people have improved, and others have not.”
Mauro also told us his expectation with the advancement of vaccination and the return to the activities of the events:
“We DJs and party producers are very excited and happy with the return of the parties gradually, after more than a year still.
In Brazil there are already places where we are able to work, I believe that God willing from October on, things will be normalized, with the entire population vaccinated.
It’s going to be amazing. Outside Brazil like Mexico, Colombia, USA, Europe, the parties are already in full force!”
It was with great satisfaction that the team of Colors DJ Magazine carried out this report to honor this great artist, who has already brought so much joy to our tracks, and that will still bring much more. It’s your world, Mauro!
