INTERVIEW | (HUGE), MYSTERIOUS, FUN AND OUTGOING, EDDIE MARTINEZ TALKS THRIFTLY ABOUT HIMSELF AND HIS CAREER

Eddie Martinez, a stud. A New Yorker muscled man that has a great history of mixing beats and creating good vibes to those that have the luxury (or luck) of hearing his tunes. Also, as a producer, he does not only mixes songs, he creates whole original sets that are linked to his life experiences and connections.

His past as a normie who have never expected to become a talented music artesan and some really fast and direct facts about his career and life are topics you are going to check out in this interview.

We, from Colors DJ Magazine, couldn’t let this opportunity of interviewing this NY star to pass by. So, please, be my guest and get to know a little more about Eddie Martinez:

To start: why Electronic Music? How did you start this journey?

I have a love for all kinds of music but I remember when I was a kid listening to a radio station in NYC called KTU on Saturday nights. They would play club music and I just loved the energy and vibe of it, it was so different from what was being played. So that put something in my ear about how much I enjoyed it.

I started as a hobby playing around with sounds and putting them together, I taught myself the fundamentals of producing music and kept exploring and now here we are!

Which were the biggest challenges you’ve found during your career until nowadays?

My biggest challenges have been trying to stay true to myself. So much has changed and people don’t like changes or seem to want them.

“…the promoters are wanting more top 40 on a loop for the big parties and newer talents with less experience and more of an instagram following…” Eddie Martinez.

How do you see the musical scene and the venues after the Pandemic?

It is a bit different in different cities I would say, but, in the States, the promoters are wanting more top 40 on a loop for the big parties and newer talents with less experience and more of an instagram following, in hopes to draw more attention and crowds to these events.

How would you describe your style?

Sexy, fun, bouncy, I want you to feel something, I want to take you to somewhere you haven’t been before.

“…people were very rude to me because I wasn’t playing what they wanted to hear, commercial enough and I mean VERY rude.” – About his second performance in Brazil.

I remember sharing the pick-ups, taking part of a GIG with you in Rio de Janeiro. If I’m not wrong, it was The LK3 Party. Tell us a bit about your experience in Brazil.

My first experience was absolutely amazing, it was pouring rain and everyone was living in the moment. It was magical. My second experience, not so much, people were very rude to me because I wasn’t playing what they wanted to hear, commercial enough and I mean VERY rude. It wasn’t a good experience for me at all. Never have I ever experienced this kind of rudeness. Very disappointing.

If you could describe Eddie Martinez through three words…which ones would be?

Fun, animated, mysterious.

What are the main references you consider as the most influential on your musical identity?

My NYC roots, listening to Victor Calderone, Peter Rauhofer, ABEL, MURK, Danny Tenaglia and Cevin Fisher. I would say I’m a fusion of these sounds.

What elements catch your ears as inspiration when you search for new creative sources?

Rhythm and bass usually.

In terms of music, who are the trendiest DJs and producers who come to your mind at the current scene?

There’s so much amazing music coming out now, the house and tech house, afro house, melodic, how they all are so fresh.

Is there or are there any proper track or tracks that you think: “That’s my jam!”. And considered highly meaningful through your career? Some song you ever play and is beloved by the audience?

Some classics never go out of style, some pop remixes always make the dance floor go wild. I would say my ‘The Party’ track, and ‘Sickening’ tracks always have people mouthing the lyrics and Johnny Vicious’s ‘Release Me’ is always so powerful amongst many others!

Have you got a specific style which you’re more keen to produce?

Lately, I have been more keen towards big room tech houses. It has all the important elements you need and it is so sophisticated.

Any other curiosity, comment or subject you would like to share?

I hope to see you guys soon!!

Which message would you send to your fans and eventually to the Brazilian Followers?

Any support means the world to me, it is always so special to me anytime someone tells me about my music so thank you for the support. I hope to see you soon, it’s been so long!

And of course, finishing our interview: Any spoiler regarding what is about to come?

A lot of different and exciting things ahead! A creative person should never stay the same.
